World Eater

Download playable from itch.io

Please note this is designed around being played with a controller, though a mouse and keyboard is supported

Project Goal

We were tasked with creating a game, from concept to release, in 4-5 months. The project was meant to simulate a compressed development cycle and working with producers (our professors). For me personally, I wanted to challenge myself to do something new while creating something I was proud of.

Work Summary

  • Worked throughout the project as the project manager, leading the team to make decisions

  • Created randomly spawned and picked scripted encounters called Conflict Zones

  • Worked heavily on balance for the entirety of the project

  • Designed and scripted a basic boss behavior, including its special attacks

  • Worked to tune the movement and tile metrics to ensure the appropriate scale was portrayed while maintaining fun gameplay

Outcome

World Eater ended up being a serious challenge for myself, but one we faced head-on. We were able to create a top-down, twin-stick, arcade style game that generates the environment from premade tiles. The game plays on an endless loop, but the number of enemies and damage they do slowly increases after every boss kill.

More details about my process for Conflict Zones and a short postmortem can be found here.
